Paradigm

Joining Paradigm

Jul 24, 2020 | guscoldebella

I’m happy to share that I’ve joined Paradigm, the crypto investment firm, as General Counsel.

This opportunity is exciting because fostering crypto technologies, and supporting the founders who create them, is an important mission. Crypto offers a way to transfer value across the Internet as easily as sending an email, but promises so much more: it lets people over distances — people who don’t know each other, and don’t necessarily trust each other — to cooperate, to create new kinds of mutually beneficial enterprises, and to form meaningful economic relationships. Perhaps most importantly, crypto realizes the Internet’s unfulfilled promise: to do these things without relying on a centralized authority like a financial institution or a company.

In short, crypto has the potential to bring greater freedom, autonomy, and economic benefit to people around the world.

Another important mission is engaging and educating policymakers in the U.S. and around the world on crypto’s promise. As with any disruptive technology, there are sometimes thorny legal and policy questions to work through, and crypto certainly has its share. Joining Paradigm offers the chance to continue the work I began at Circle and deploy my experience as a lawyer and former policymaker to assist the fund and its portfolio companies with these complex issues.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with some of the most brilliant leaders and thinkers in the space. Fred Ehrsam, Matt Huang, Alana Palmedo and the team Paradigm has assembled are world-class investors, and more: they bring enduring advantages of vision, experience, and tenacity to the founders and companies in Paradigm’s portfolio and to the ecosystem in general. I’m eager to add my efforts to theirs, and to help set the standard for asset management firms in this emerging industry.
