I’m incredibly excited to announce that I’m joining Paradigm alongside Matt Huang, Fred Ehrsam, and the rest of the team in their mission to build a world-class cryptocurrency investment firm.
For the past three years I have straddled the line between operating and investing–working as an engineer at Google 9 to 5 and as a part-time investor at Bessemer on nights and weekends. Throughout this balancing act, I was regularly asked “where do you see your career going: investing or engineering?” The strict qualifier of “or” always troubled me, as I planned on finding a way to combine both disciplines and invest in a way which honored and prioritized technical craftsmanship.
The decision to join Paradigm was effortless as there isn’t another firm in existence which so elegantly threads the needle between engineering and investing. Matt and Fred have built a magnet for unique thinkers who together have cultivated a culture that is rooted in research, technical rigor, intellectual honesty, structured thinking, and a commitment to seeking truth. I feel deeply aligned with the Paradigm family in regards to our values, the change we are looking to produce and the methods we will deploy in getting there.
I originally entered the cryptocurrency space curious about distributed systems and new age religions. It’s been one of my life’s greatest thrills and learning opportunities to watch the adoption of this technology over the years. It’s perhaps even more thrilling to house such strong conviction that this is just the beginning.
As a believer that specialization is required to achieve mastery, I look forward to transitioning from investing across frontier tech to focus exclusively on cryptocurrency. The migration from a breadth-first to a depth-first approach within an organization that has been architected from the ground up to capitalize on this technical revolution is beyond exciting.
I’ll be joining Paradigm as an investment partner focused on early stage crypto projects and companies. I look forward to backing inventive builders who have a cogent vision, relentless work ethic and a commitment to making crypto ubiquitous. If you are working on something you think I’d find interesting, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As I begin this new chapter, I would like to sincerely thank the entire Bessemer family. I will be eternally grateful for Charles Birnbaum, Talia Goldberg, David Cowan, Alex Ferrara, Andrew Hedin, Rob Stavis, Bob Goodman, Sakib Dadi and Lindsey Li who taught me the fundamentals of venture capital. The biggest thanks goes to Ethan Kurzweil who took a complete chance on me three years ago and has been a teacher, mentor and friend ever since.
