Many people have noticed a recent boom in math papers being posted to arXiv. We wanted to understand the boom on a deeper level. Why is it happening? Which types of researchers are affected? Are any other fields booming?
To find out, we measured the boom across 5 million papers + 2.5 million researchers + 7000 institutions + 15 data sources. We found a widespread superexponential publication boom spread across many fields, researchers, institutions, and geographies.
Some of the key findings are below. The full data report can be read here and our explainer on X here.
